    Who we are

The Scottish Wild Land Group works to protect and conserve wild land throughout Scotland, and has campaigned since 1982 on a wide range of issues.  SWLG is in favour of sensitive development of rural areas where it is sustainable and takes account of the interests of local communities.

Help us protect Scotland's wild land!
    • SWLG campaigns on the wider political issues
    • SWLG makes detailed contributions to national and local government proposals
    • SWLG responds to individual developments
    • SWLG believes in action - not reaction

SWLG is a founder member of the Scottish Environmental Link.

    Campaign Issues

SWLG aims to address issues affecting the wild land of Scotland, including its islands. Issues covered in recent years include:-
    • insensitive hydro schemes and wind farms.
    • proliferation of fencing
    • badly sited telecom masts
    • construction of bulldozed tracks for sporting shooting
    • superquarries
    • transport in rural areas
    • land ownership
    • funicular railways
    • protection of the Cairngorms
    • adverse impact of mechanised downhill ski-ing
    • degradation of land by deer and sheep grazing
    • afforestation
    • access to the hills
    • fish farming and the marine environment generally.
We aim to push landscape much higher up the equation in the issue of countryside / habitat / species protection.

    Wild Land News

SWLG publishs its journal Wild Land News three times a year. The main contributors to Wild Land News are members of the SWLG Steering Team plus guest writers. The magazine is printed in black and white and the inclusion of good quality photographs is a key element of its attractiveness.

The target audience for Wild Land News is individuals and bodies who are interested in obtaining information about issues affecting wild land in Scotland. It is read widely, especially by those living outwith Scotland who do not have an opportunity to read news and comment featured solely in the Scottish press.

See Wild Land News back issues on the web.

The magazine is distributed free to members. However issues can also be purchased for 50 pence plus postage from the Coordinator.

    2. Encourage like-minded friends and colleagues to join with you.
    3. We always need more local "eyes and ears" to alert us of developments and report on matters of concern to the Group.
